No Rhythm, Just Blues: A Poem

I wanted you to be the rhythm to my blues

The answer to my unspoken prayers

The butter that flavors my grits

The drumbeat that soothes my pain

An accompaniment to my heartbeat that vibrates within my soul

I wanted to be the harmony in your song

The key that unlocks the captivity of your wings

The ham hock that seasons your greens

The peace that calms your storm

The love you didn’t know you needed that remedies all your woes

But my blues remain with no song to sing

So I’ll continue to pray in hopes to gain the rhythm to my blues
